Read EVERYTHING you can get your hands on about Bass fishing. Go to the library and check out magazines, books, videos, Etc.
Try to get in as much fishing time, (even from shore), as you can. While fishing you are improving your casting skills and learning about the Bass’s environment. In fact, set some “targets” up in your back yard and practice your Flippin’ and general Baitcasting skills. Being VERY accurate with a Rod is one of the most important skills a Pro fisherman has to learn……..
Save your money, (work odd jobs/mow lawns/ Etc), and try to find a used 14-16FT WIDE Jon boat with a trolling motor attached. Because you can’t drive at this time swing a deal with a local fish-camp/marina- You will mow their grass or do handy-work if you can store/leave your boat at the camp.
Be very VOCAL about your dream to adults, teachers, & parents.
If you pursue Bass fishing in earnest and show adults, parents, Etc that you are willing to WORK to get what you want you WILL succeed.
Contact your local Bass Club and speak to the director. Express your interest and perhaps they will allow you to compete or tag along on a REAL T.
Whatever you do, DON’T GIVE UP! At 14, if you work hard and learn the correct boating & angler skills you could easily be touring by the time your 21.
Understand that fishing “luck” happens when “preparation and skill” meet opportunity.
    Hope this helps? Good luck!

Do it a BUNCH. My mom’s husband (I guess you could call him my new step dad…) fishes in tournys. If he wins 1st place, often times it can award him a new boat, pay for his trip and more.
Sometimes, winning 3rd place alone will pay for the trip.
There’s more than trips, becoming a guide is good money too. Find a few lakes, study them, study tides, don’t be afraid to ask other anglers, and more… Lots of work involved, but it can pay off.
I’d say 14 is probably too young to do it on your own… If your parents want to do it for you – go for it.

Tons and Tons of Luck and even more hard work… Start entering local tourneys and win win win… then take your win list to a potential sponsor,, even if its the local grocery store,, get somebody to back you with some money and start entering bigger tournaments.. See ya on the tour.
